Characters

The use of short forms of names in this blog is partially to protect my identity, and partially because I think it’s fun.  I try to explain who and what I’m talking about as I go, but (unless you are super nice and/or have too much time on your hands and have read every single post I’ve written) you probably won’t know what’s going on.  Here’s a quick list of explanations to catch you up:

>=University

~ =Town

* = City

>Mickey: Baseball player in my economics class. Hilarious. Cute. We shall see what happens…

~Lis: My best friend since sixth grade. She’s stubborn, irritating, a shopping genius, gorgeous, understanding, sympathetic, loyal, and just completely gets me.

Pal: My brother, my polar opposite, and my best friend. I miss him now that he’s in universityland.

*Jan: Quiet and sweet, but surprisingly stubborn. Best friends with Dee.

*Lyd: My sardonic, honest, ridiculously funny best friend at Mustard High. Also my teammate on my club soccer team.

*Dee: Athletic, ultra-competitive, with a mouth that would make a sailor blush. Needless to say, we hit it off right away. One of my closest friends at Mustard High. Currently spending a year on an exchange in Mexico.

*Nob: We were friends and then we went on some dates and then I told him I just wanted to be friends and then he was mad but then we were friends again and now…I don’t know. Maybe there will always be something between us.

*Mat: Now one of my closest friends, he and I spent hours after school together working on the school paper and the yearbook and a talking about politics and books and just everything.  Everyone always told us we should date, but our relationship is so platonic it’s ridiculous.

*Cat: Mat’s awesome but somewhat wimpy girlfriend.

*Jo: Quietly hilarious Mexican friend. Really likes Jan.

*Sar: One of my other close friends at Mustard. She’s smart and hilarious and a little jaded about guys the way I am.

~Nee: Friend since kindergarten, so we’ll always be tight.  It’s hard to keep in touch now that we don’t walk to school together every day though.

~Tim: Friend of Lis at the Comp. We always have fun together and I really like him, but then we went on a date and I don’t know where we’re at now.

Eli: An incredibly gorgeous guy that I met while on a college tour. We mostly talk over text and, well, he’s kind of amazing.

*Patt: My now ex-boyfriend at Mustard High. He asked me out on Valentine’s Day, which was super cute. And yes, for the record I dumped him.

~La: Former best friend, known her since kindergarten but only been friends since grade five. We haven’t talked in a while, and I don’t know if it’s because I’ve changed, or because she has.

~Zee: Well we were friends, and then I had a crush on him, but he was dating Jay, but then he and Jay broke up and he realized he liked me. So he asked me out and we were dating for a few weeks before I realized that it wasn’t going to work.  Haven’t talked to him since we broke up.

~Jay: Zee’s ex-girlfriend. We have enough history that we’ll always be friends, but it gets pretty awkward between us sometimes.

~Ris: Semi-hot rocker/partier and all around charming guy. My dad would hate him.

~Marc: A long lost friend who I was really tight with pre-puberty.  I’m just starting to get to know him again, mostly via text.

~Ti: From the group of friends I had in grade nine that I left when I went to Mustard this year.  He’s the quiet but funny one who always has something awesome to say if you listen closely enough.

~Rady: La’s new friend at the Comp. Is she replacing me as La’s closest confidant?

~Jar: Well, he and Lis were best friends, and then they dated, and then broke up, and then got back together, and then broke up again.  He and I are still technically friends I guess, but it’s kind of a mess.

~Sas: New kid from Europe-land. I fell for his cute accent in junior high, but now realize that he’s more needy than hot.

~Ty: My first boyfriend. Haven’t seen him since 6th grade. No need for details.

~Ash: Ex best friend from the Ty-era of my life.  When I became friends with her I broke a lot of ties with friends who didn’t blend with Ash’s crowd.

~Cort: See Ash. Same time period in my life, but Cort and I fought an awful lot more than we got along. She has recently reappeared in my life by joining my soccer team.

~Cad: Known him since kindergarten, and recently thought it was a good idea to make out with him. Umm yeah.

Mustard High: The high school I went to in the city.

Comprehensive High (or the Comp): The high school in the town where I live that all my long time friends went to.

Numbers: (Ex. #5 gave me advice…) Refers to my soccer teammates on my team in the city. A few of them go to my school, but I don’t hang out with them much there.
